Learn new habits on vacation

In my last post I showed you how to stay healthy while on vacation. Today I want to show you something different. While being on vacation is a great way to relax and to recharge, it is also a perfect opportunity to learn new things and to start new habits. Here are some ideas:

Meditate

Before you leave, make sure you download the app called Calm. This is a meditation app with many guided meditations. It is the best app to use if you want help to start meditating. During your holiday you have more time, so give yourself 10 minutes per day to meditate. It is a well known fact that meditation had many health benefits; in addition to mental and emotional health benefits, meditation may help with allergies, anxiety, binge eating, fatigue, high blood pressure, sleep issues, and many others. It just takes 10 minutes and can help you tremendously. It calms your mind, teaches you to focus on the now, it can change the neuron connections in your brain and it just feels amazing. You can even get a months free trial -> click here for more information.

Try a new class

If you are going to a hotel or resort chances are they have daily fitness classes. Why not try  something new? You have nothing to lose and it is usually already paid for. Who knows, maybe you would like it. Or try to find a local yoga studio and try out some classes.

Try new foods

Travelling to a new country gives you a perfect opportunity to try out the local cuisine. Set yourself the challenge to try a new food you would normally never try at least once during your holiday. Broadening your palet and waking up your tastebuds may open up for new ways to your life and to get to know yourself on a different level. How far are you willing to go? It is only for a limited time anyway, so why not try?

Hot towel scrub

This amazing and easy self care treat reduces stress instantly and promotes circulation among the many other benefits. Here is how it works: Turn on the hot water and fill the sink. Hold the towel at both ends and place in the hot water. Wring out the towel and while the towel is still hot and steamy, begin to scrub the skin gently. Do one section of the body at a time: for example, begin with the hands and fingers, then work your way up the arms to the shoulders, neck and face, then down to the chest, upper back, abdomen, lower back, buttocks, legs, feet, and toes. Scrub until the skin becomes slightly pink or until each part becomes warm. Reheat the towel often by dipping it in the hot water after scrubbing each section, or as soon as it starts to cool. This method also helps your relationship with your body in a positive way. What better time than on your vacation to reconnect with your body?

The real challenge may be to stick to these new habits when you return from holiday, but before you leave for vacation, don’t worry about that just yet. Dare to try something new and see how it makes you feel!
