How to feel whole, happy and complete

Hello, and welcome to my blog. My journey to becoming a coach started in 2014. I was working at Amazon and I had just come back after maternity leave from my first born. It was an absolutely horrible time.

At that time, I was diagnosed with general anxiety, depression and burnout. This is something that was not really clear to me back then. Only recently, I found some old papers from the doctor with these diagnosis’s. What a shock that was.

It all changed

That summer in 2014, a friend from Uni showed me a video on life as a health coach and it looked absolutely wonderful. A lady woke up, drank a yummy green juice and could calmly deal with her children in the morning. Then she went to check on her emails and her tasks for the day. She had a few coaching sessions with clients that she loved. She then went to the farmers market for groceries and networking, and went to her yoga class. In the evening she cooked a healthy meal for her family and found quiet time before bed. The sun was shining all day and she looked really happy and peaceful. OH wow, I want her life, I thought. I want it now!! My life looked nothing like that.

As you can imagine, it didn’t take long before I enrolled in that health coaching school.

The course was one year long and it took me on a journey to transform my relationship with HEALTH, MY BODY and FOOD. My life turned around. Not only did I change career, as I opened my own private practice as a Health Coach, but I changed how I ate, how I exercised and how I was treating myself. It was amazing!

I understand that the video was an exaggeration of what is possible, but to be honest on my good days, my life today looks a lot like that.

And then it changed even more

In 2017, another friend gave me a book; Co-Active Coaching: The proven framework for transformative conversations at work and in life: Changing Business, Transforming Lives. This book changed how I saw coaching. At this point, I was coaching a number of people in my practice. Many people came to me to change their diet, but I quickly realised that the core of the issues was rarely food. The main issue was often low self esteem or lack of self love. I found that I was lacking the skills to really help these people and to help them change their life: to transform.

I was so convinced by what I was reading in the book, that I enrolled in the Co-Active Coaching training. I loved the model so much, that I went through the entire training and certified with them in 2019. This gave me straight access to be accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

Their model is about coaching the whole person and realising that all aspects of life affects the other. If you change one thing in your life, it will have an influence on something else. They taught me tools to help clients really get to know themselves and find out, at their core, what they really wanted in life. This method goes so much deeper than anything I have ever tried before. I felt I was getting access to the soul of my clients and that was such a fulfilling feeling to me.

I became widely curious about how people become the people they are – what made them tick – what shaped them. This is when I brought my personal life experience into my coaching business.

Brining my personal experience into my business

I am a child of divorce and grew up in a household that was marked by alcohol and violence. It was not a very happy childhood. I have been in therapy on and off since I am 16 years old, but it is only recently that I have found true healing.

I always knew that I had to keep trying and keep working and that eventually happiness would be out there. I never gave up. I kept trying to heal, trying to move on and facing millions of obstacles along the way.

I’ve always understood that your childhood defines who you become as an adult, but I didn’t know how to change the things that I didn’t like. However, during the co-active training, things really started to shift. I started to feel important, capable and worthy. All very new feelings for me at the time.

By continuing my training, working with a coach and reading many books, I am now free of anxiety and depression. I feel like a whole person. All the different parts of me that were separated during my life have come together and created a whole and confident being. I spent so much of my life surviving and there was no time to learn who I was inside. Now, I know who I am. I feel strong and I feel that nothing can knock me over. And if it does, I know, I have the tools to deal with it. Anxiety doesn’t control my decisions any longer. I prioritise my life according to my values. I do things that feed my soul. I am happy and fulfilled.

I’m in charge of my life.

…and no more pleasing, perfectionism, control, overachieving or being anxious about everything.
