Here we go! 8th edition of the Health Expert Series!

Most people I talk to are quite uncomfortable with being called an expert and I want to clarify this. We are all experts! Anyone who cares about themselves and their health is an expert. We all know what we need and what our bodies need! We just need to listen!

Our bodies are constantly talking to us. If you have a headache or a back ache or are exceptionally tired – these are all ways your body is talking to you. You just need to figure out what it is telling you and what it needs. Most headaches can be cured by simply drinking more water! Think about it! What is your body telling you? Find a calm space, quiet your mind and try to feel your body. What is it saying to you?

Someone who is really an expert in listening to her inner self is my friend, Ana. She is a Reiki Master, a Self Healing Instructor and owner of A Magical Butterfly; a self healing studio that also offers pilates and yoga classes among other things. Check out all their offers here.

What does health mean to you?

For me health is equal to balance and is a good combination of taking care of yourself and enjoying your life as it is.

 

How do you achieve this level of healthy?

I truly believe that we have 4 bodies (Spirit, Mind, Emotions and Physical body) and I pay attention of practicing things that will help to keep my 4 bodies in a good shape.

I always ask for the help of experts in those fields to learn, to improve and to nourish my soul, my mind and body.

Also accepting my emotions helps me to have a deeper connection with my body and to know what do I need in terms of practices, sports, food, fun and rest!!!

 

Why is it important to be and live healthily?

For me it is a way to honour life by loving myself and to have the energy and a positive attitude to create a wonderful adventure.

I love being alive and I will do my best to fully live it according to my dreams and needs.

As a mother of 2 wonderful kids I also want to have the energy and a healthy heart to enjoy the road with them!!!

 

Why are you an expert?

I don’t consider myself an expert, I am just someone passionate about living in balance and helping people to find how to live with ease and joy.

I will continue improving myself through my own practice and through the sharing moments with my loved ones, friends and clients 🙂

 

What is your top health tip?

Love yourself and respect yourself!!!

Welcome to the 6th edition of my Health Series!

What does health mean to you?

Health to me means being resilient to what life throws at you. Everything is interconnected, much more than we think! Therefore, fostering a healthy approach to life impacts not only yourself but also your environment and the people around you. 

How do you achieve this level of healthy?

By following an integrative or holistic approach to life. Where body, mind and spirit is nurtured and living in harmony and flow with the environment around you. Realising that the body is self-healing and ever-changing, just like nature. We are nature! Understanding that anything you put in your mouth, put on your skin, inhale through your nose and create in your mind influences health. Rather being curious to new discoveries in science than feeling overwhelmed. As essential as the physical part is to health, acknowledging the underestimated role thoughts and emotions play in shaping your reality and ultimately health. And lastly, moving your body in ways that feel good.

Why is it important to be and live healthily?

To be alive is a GIFT.

Respecting and nurturing this gift just feels right to me.

This wasn’t always my attitude. I have gone through times when I took life, my body and the environment around me for granted. Becoming a parent and taking stock of who I am in the world and my place in it, has changed ALL THAT in a big way. 

Why are you an expert?

I won’t call myself a “Health Expert”…

Following an exhausting 18-year corporate career filled with sweat and tears, I analysed my life when becoming a mother and awoken to the realisation that life is more than just deadlines and material things. The challenging transition parents in the Western world experience compared to how traditional cultures approach this sacred rite of passage fascinated my so much, I fell in love with the “transition into parenthood” and made it my mission to support parents going through it.

I started my own business coaching and educating expecting and new parents worldwide after qualifying as Holistic Pregnancy & Child Sleep Practitioner and Holistic Perinatal Educator/coach, Happiest Baby on the Block educator and soon-to-be “Becoming Us”-facilitator.

I also developed the desire to create positive change within my community and as a result, the Luxmama Club & ParentPrep asbl was born, a volunteer-run organisation by the community, for the community raising awareness for green, natural & holistic parenting alternatives, birth rights and perinatal mood disorders by offering a variety of inspiring social and educational events in Luxembourg.

What is your top health tip?

Listen to your body, it’s always communicating with you. Be kind to yourself and others. Say no when it’s not for you. Do things that bring you joy.

What does health mean to you?

As the saying goes “Health is Wealth”. It contributes to us being able to live life to its fullest and contributes to our overall happiness. But for me health is not just about eating all the right foods all the time and following a strict exercise regime, it’s about balance and having enough love and respect for yourself to nurture not only your body but your mind too. I am a great believer in giving the body and the mind time to rest, not only to just chill out and calm the body but also to give yourself time and space to integrate what you have been learning, whether it is a meditation practice, running, Pilates, singing or any regular practice that you do.

How do you achieve this level of healthy?

Well, I can’t say that I have mastered this level of healthy completely but I try my best to stay active, eat a balanced diet and most of all reduce stress by doing things that I love such as singing, seeing friends, strolling along the beach and trying to meditate regularly. It’s the combination of all these factors that contribute to achieving a more “holistic approach” to being healthy. I believe that I am also a VERY POSITIVE and resilient person, not to say that I haven’t had my failures and major life lessons. But instead of focusing on the negative aspects of these so-called BIG mistakes, I prefer to see them as Life lessons (not saying that sometimes this takes some time to let go). But all these experiences contribute to making me the person I am today and for that I am very grateful.

Why is it important to be and live healthily?

To enable yourself to live life to the fullest, whatever that may be for you – to be happy and to be free from pain, restrictions and discomfort in both body and mind.

Why are you an expert?

I have been working as a Pilates instructor for over 4 years now. I have taught many types of people from very healthy to people living in constant pain. What this has taught me is that we should be focused on preventative measures to reduce illness and disease through self care and self love. We need to be kind to ourselves as well as others. Taking time to recharge is not selfish in a negative way, it’s self love – as the saying goes “one cannot pour from an empty cup”.

I can’t say that making time for myself used to come so naturally, and it has taken time for me to make sure that I schedule in some down time for myself to keep my mind and my body healthy – really focusing on the Work/Life Balance. When running your own business it’s very easy to work 24/7 so making time for myself is essential.

But the main thing is my personal experience and my lifestyle as I try and live as mindfully and consciously as possible. This applies to all aspects of my life from work, to relationships, to self-care and self love.

What is your top health tip?

Strong is the new skinny – developing a strong mind and a strong body, with a huge dollop of love and kindness, letting go of judgements and expectations will help you to live a more positive, healthy and happy life. Focus on making your body strong, take time to rest and nurture yourself in all aspects of your life.

Welcome to the 4th edition of the Health Series!

This month we are going to hear from MY VERY OWN BOXERCISE INSTRUCTOR Marie! She has quite similar views on health to mine, so I was very excited to read her answers! I hope you will be too.

What does health mean to you?

It may sound a bit silly but to me personally it’s about feeling alive and functioning physically and mentally with good energy. I want to wake up feeling good in the morning not tired and just getting up and going through the motions. I want to wake up with purpose and feel motivated.

For me if I am feeling like this most of the time then my health is in pretty good form. As a Group fitness coach & PT trainer I want and need to have good health and energy. I think there is nothing worse as a client to turn up to a class or PT session where the instructor has no energy or enthusiasm about them.

How do you achieve this level of healthy?

It’s not always easy we all live increasingly busy stressful lives. For it to work for me I need to plan organise and execute!:o). I find it easier if I make a plan and stick to it, which is easier said than done, but when you do that, it works and it is then my routine. I always work better at everything if I make it part of my daily/weekly routine

Why is it important to be and live healthily?

Wow that’s a big question………. it’s so important for so many different reasons!:o)……. I don’t think a lot of people really know what good health means or how much it affects everything in your life when you are not feeling on good form and in good health.

A lot of people think that if they are not ill then that must mean that they are healthy, well no I don’t think so……. bear with me here I don’t mean to sound patronising, I just think that so many people are running on autopilot trying to get through the day and get all the tasks done that need to be done and never putting themselves and their health at the top of that to do list. It is my personal opinion and experience if you improve your health through exercise and good nutrition it massively impacts your life in so many more good ways than you expected.

Imagine doing everything that you need to get done with a lot more energy, enthusiasm and happiness, wouldn’t it be so much easier and enjoyable? That’s why I think living and being healthy is so important, it makes such a difference to how you feel.

Why are you an expert?

hhhhmm “expert” another big word that can mean many different things to people:o) Can I change that question to What makes you good at your Job?

Well once you get past being qualified of course then it’s about the fact I really like my job and I want people to really feel the benefits of exercise. I like to keep up to date with what is going on in the health and fitness world. I think it is a very interesting time, slowly more and more people are becoming aware of the importance of exercise for more than just the purpose to loose weight which is an important factor. I love to see the change and progress in people and see how much better they feel about themselves.

What is your top health tip?

Exercise of course!:o) There is more to health than just exercise but I think it such an important part as that is often one of the first steps that people take in their aim to improve their health and that first step is the most important…..

…. But don’t just find any exercise, find an exercise that you genuinely like. There is no use taking up running just because you want to improve your health and fitness if you hate running…….we all know how that’s going to end. Don’t be afraid to try some different exercises before you find what you really like….. and find an exercise in a group format, it is more fun and makes you much more likely to stick with it if you are accountable to other people too:o)
