What makes you smile? Laugh? Go giddy with glee? For some, it’s a walk barefoot through the grass. For another, it’s a spin on a roller coaster, a solo movie date, or a perfectly ripe mango.

So… when was the last time you did something that makes you happy?

Show yourself!

In my last post, I told you about my life as a non-smoker, but what I didn’t tell you is everything I learnt about myself when I finally quit!

I discovered how much I had used cigarettes to hide behind. To hide whom I really was. When I quit I had to learn who to be and how to act in many situations. How could I strike up a conversation without cigarettes? How could I keep a conversation going and not fill the awkward silences with cigarettes? How should I talk on the phone, wait for a bus and how should I finish a dinner without lighting up? What about breaks at work? Oh, and the big one: how to party and enjoy drinks without cigs?

I had to reinvent myself. Who was I when I couldn’t use cigarettes to hide behind? It was very tough, but I did learn so much about myself. And I gained so much confidence, because I understood that I didn’t need to hide behind anything anymore.

You know these inspirational posts on Facebook: be who you are, it is enough? I would nod at them and say: “yes, yes, I know”. But, you know what? I didn’t REALLY get them.

I really am enough! I really am amazing. And people who don’t like me the way I am should just scram!

I get it now!

Many people use food in the similar way, including me. When things get tough, we create quite literally a fat layer to keep people at a distance. We hide behind food. I get it! It’s comforting. It doesn’t talk back. It doesn’t expect you to be anything but yourself.

I want you to take a deep breath now and imagine a life where you could be yourself at all times, just as you are. To be to the outside world, as you are when you are alone with your food, or your cigarette or whatever “drug” you use to hide behind.

It’s really scary, right?

But it’s also wonderful. It is such a relief. It’s so relaxing to not constantly have to worry about what other people may or may not think of you. To just be. To just do what makes YOU happy! To dress and walk, to smile and laugh, dance and sing, just the way you are!

This is a scary and life changing process and I know that I couldn’t do it alone. Well, you don’t have to! Let me help you. Let me guide you to discover who you really are! Learn how to love yourself and never have to hide again.
