Nutrition

Let’s talk about food and nutrition. There is no way around it. Taking good care of yourself also means treating your body with self care. It can be so hard to find out what is right to eat, but don’t worry, there is a way. And a great bonus from eating better is that you will feel great and potentially prevent and even reverse disease.

I don’t care much for calorie counting or restriction. It is all about choosing the right food. These are the simple rules I like to follow when it comes to nutrition:  Eat more fruits and veggies, eat less simple carbs and processed foods. Drink more water and less carbonated drinks. Try to eat as close to nature as possible. Our bodies are made from nature so what do you think our bodies thrive on? Something made by someone in a lab coat or by Mother Nature itself? I love Michael Pollans approach. He says; Eat real food, not too much, mostly plants. It’s simple and easy to understand.

Try to eat as colourful and varied as possible. Think of a rainbow with all its colours. The ideal is to eat all colours throughout the day. Every colour has its beneficial properties and all serve a specific purpose inside your body. It is also important to think about variety. If you go to Disneyland, you want to try all the rides, right? You don’t want to keep spinning around the same ride. Eating is a bit the same. If you only eat apples and bananas you miss out on all the other beautiful nutrients out there that your body would love.

What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach is a supportive mentor and wellness authority helping clients feel their best through food & lifestyle changes by tailoring individualised wellness programs to meet their clients needs.

This is how it works

The first step is gathering as much information about you, your eating habits and your daily life as possible. Once I have all this information we can schedule our first appointment. I always meet the client where they are, meaning that if you are already eating quite healthy but need an upgrade or something else you are struggling with, then we start from there. If, however you are just starting out changing your diet, then we go from there. This also means that the number of sessions needed will depend on where you are on your journey and what you wish to achieve. On average, I recommend 6-8 sessions.

I do not recommend special diets or any one-fits-all solutions. We are all unique individuals and have very different needs. Our diet and lifestyle is no different. I teach bio-individuality which means there is no perfect diet for everyone. One persons food can be another persons poison. Never compare yourself to others. Our coaching sessions will also focus on you as an individual.

We are what we eat. Good health depends upon a healthy diet. While good dietary nutrition helps build the foundation for wellness, it’s not the only pillar. Nutrition extends far beyond food; nutrition comprises all the things that nourish the body. What is unique about an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach is the holistic approach. We look at the individual as a whole. Relationships, exercise, career, and spirituality are just as important to your health as the food you eat.

Dr. Andrew Weil’s Self-Healing magazine reports:

“When athletes want a competitive edge, they hire a private coach to monitor their progress. When it comes to your health, using this mindset could also be beneficial. Health coaches are increasingly being hired by corporations to help employees stay healthy and by individuals seeking to improve well-being. For some, these coaches offer assistance in managing dietary constraints (due to conditions such as celiac disease or diabetes), and for others, they might focus on teaching stress-reduction methods. In some ways, the health coach picks up where your physician left off, helping you implement wellness strategies suggested after a check-up or diagnosis.”
